Pero 3D printed bookmark
Gear | Design
Pero by Netherlands-based Studio Macura is a functional and decorative 3D printed bookmark in the shape of a dove. While the bird poetically perches on top of the book its long string holds in place marking the page. The sculptural doves are designed in three different positions, standing, pecking and flying and in a number of colors.

Cloud Lamp 12852941

On one hand, 'Cloud' lamp by Richard Clarkson is an Arduino-controlled, motion-triggered lightning & thunder performance. On the other, it is a music-activated visualizer and suspended speaker unit. Acting as both a semi-immersive lightning experience, or as speaker with visual feedback, this nightlight/nightspeaker hybrid introduces a new discourse for what a nightlight could be.

Dapper Toad collaborated with her sister Lorna of Knits For Life to create this amazing “Yarnbomb Squid Tree” in San Mateo, California. It looks like a giant squid.
- Amount of yarn used: 4 miles
- Knitting time: 20 hours (using Bond Ultimate Sweater Machine)
- Installation time: 14 hours x 2 people
- Temperature during installation: 91°F

"I love seeing people's reactions as we install our yarnbombs. Lately, we've been getting a lot of "so YOU'RE the ones doing this!" and "I've been noticing all the yarn stuff around lately". It's amazing to be able to converse with people as we're sewing feet on mailboxes and bicyclists on bike-shaped bike racks."

SEIL Bag

SEIL Bag
Gear | Bike

SEIL Bag is a wearable signal light for cyclists. Working with that in mind is Lee Myung Su, the designer behind the SEIL Bag. It’s essentially a bag with a wireless remote control that the cyclist can use to display signals on the back, such as left or right signals, the cruise signal, the stop signal, or an emergency signal. And it is also a bag, you can use it to store your phone and wallet... The concept won a Red Dot Design Award back in 2010, and now Lee is back with plans for turning it into a reality with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for the bag. The SEIL system is currently up for funding on Kickstarter.

Murica by artist Dena Jarrar(deviantart).
"Since I'm going to be meeting Norman Reedus (AKA Daryl Motherfucking Dixon) tonight at the Nashville Horror & Tattoo convention, I figured I should go ahead and post. "Several years after the events that took place when the epidemic began, there stands only one survivor. He fears not the dead, yet the dead cower before him, as he sits atop his trusty giant sabre squirrel, Bloodspill. Daryl Dixon is truly the epitome of an asskicker and a historical American hero." 12 hrs. Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom tablet."

Sony announces new A7, A7R cameras

Sony announces new A7 A7R cameras
Gear | Camera
Sony has announced two new cameras, A7($1,699) and A7R($2,299) are the world’s first compact full frame mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The A7 and A7R are the world’s first compact full frame mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The only difference between the two is in the sensor used. The A7R has a 36.4 megapixel sensor, the highest for a Sony A series camera, but without an optical low pass filter. You lose the anti-aliasing capability of the filter but instead gain sharper, more detailed images. The A7, on the other hand, has the filter, along with a lower-resolution 24.3 megapixel sensor and a fast Hybrid AF sensor. The A7 series will feature a built-in 2.4 million dot OLED EVF, a tilt-able 3.0" screen, Wi-Fi/NFC connectivity, 5 fps continuous shooting (4FPS in the A7R), and a weather-sealed body.
