Mesoloft will scatter your ashes from the edge of
    Gear  |  Other
Some people choose to honor the memory of a lost loved one by doing something creative with their ashes. What's more creative than taking their remains to the very top of the Earth's atmosphere and releasing them? That's what Mesoloft just takes this process much closer to the final frontier. Mesoloft is taking remains to an altitude of 20 miles (32.2 km), which is a part of the stratosphere called Near Space. At this height, Mesoloft co-founder Chris Winfield says that the released ashes travel around in the atmosphere before eventually making their way back to Earth in rain or snow.
"Mesoloft makes it possible to honor the dream and memory of your departed loved one by lifting the cremated remains of a beloved family member into the magnificent beauty of near space, almost twenty miles above our planet. Once released, they will soar and drift in the upper reaches of the earth's atmosphere for weeks and months circulating the globe. "

    B4RM4N a nbsp Smart Shaker
    Gear  |  Projects

You have to look up a recipe on your phone, measure each spirit using little tumblers, you end up spilling some every time. Ok, not that hard, it’s pretty simple but it can be even simpler with the help of B4RM4N. The B4RM4N is a smart cocktail shaker laden with tech: there’s an accelerometer, a bluetooth module, and a weight sensor. Once connected to your smartphone, simply load up the recipe you want and start pouring the ingredients straight into the shaker. It’ll tell you when you stop pouring, when to switch ingredients, how much ice (and which kind) to put, and even how long to shake. It’s a Kickstarter project at the moment, with expected delivery in time for summer 2015.

What s the most cited research paper ever You ll be
    Gear  |  Pic
Nature presents the top 100 papers cited by others, a "paper mountain" of science's greatest hits.
The exercise revealed some surprises, not least that it takes a staggering 12,119 citations to rank in the top 100 — and that many of the world’s most famous papers do not make the cut. A few that do, such as the first observation1 of carbon nanotubes (number 36) are indeed classic discoveries. But the vast majority describe experimental methods or software that have become essential in their fields.
... The colossal size of the scholarly literature means that the top-100 papers are extreme outliers. Thomson Reuter’s Web of Science holds some 58 million items. If that corpus were scaled to Mount Kilimanjaro, then the 100 most-cited papers would represent just 1 centimetre at the peak. Only 14,499 papers — roughly a metre and a half’s worth — have more than 1,000 citations (see ‘The paper mountain’). Meanwhile, the foothills comprise works that have been cited only once, if at all — a group that encompasses roughly half of the items.

The most frequently-cited paper, with 305,148 citations, is "Protein measurement with the folin phenol reagent," by Lowry, Rosebrough, Farr and Randall.

Ryan Bowen and his baby son Geraint dressed as a mech warrior for Hallowe'en in an awesome effort that turns the child into a brave mecha-pilot. Check out the video!
"Ryan built a frame for the body out of PVC and wrapped a cardboard shell around it and secured it to the frame with zip ties," Bowen's wife said. "He then cut and sculpted the other pieces out of cardboard, with some foam board details to add a true 3D effect. The joints are all fastened with Velcro cable wraps, and the head and other pieces attach to the main body with Velcro tape."
"The legs are supported by a belt, which is hidden under the body," she continued. "His arms slip into the gun pods and he has more Velcro straps on the inside in order to hold them. The feet just fit over his shoes by gluing toilet paper tubes on the inside to take up the extra space."
