Google unveils new ASUS OnHub router
    Gear  |  Gadget
Google has taken the wraps off its second OnHub router, this one coming from ASUS.  The original OnHub was made by TP-Link, while this new one is made by ASUS. The new model features Wave Control, a new bit of functionality that allows users to increase a specific device’s WiFi speed by waving a hand over the top of the router.
"Like our first router, the ASUS OnHub comes with faster Wi-Fi, easy set-up, and simple management with the Google On app. With the ASUS OnHub, we’re also introducing Wave Control, which lets you boost the Wi-Fi speed for a particular device by simply waving your hand over the top of the ASUS OnHub—great for busy houses." The latest edition of the router can be pre-ordered now via Google Play for $220 USD.

    The Altwork Station
    Gear  |  Desktop
The company has the just-announced the Altwork Station that goes up for pre-order today for $3,900! The Altwork Station looks kind of like a futuristic dentist's chair. It's a somewhat crazy but intriguing vision for giving users a totally customizable workstation, whether you want to sit, stand or even recline!
"There's a comfortable place to sit and an intimidatingly large arm that extends from the left side of the chair and holds up your laptop, monitor (via the standard VESA mount) and a small desk-like surface. The area that extends out from the arm can swivel out from the chair to make a standalone workstation that can be raised up and down, allowing for it to be used as a standing desk. The desk's surface is where you'll find a control panel for adjusting the height of the standing platform; once you get it set to the height you desire, you can save that setting and easily adjust between the seated and standing positions."

GoPro is developing a drone. In this YouTube video, GoPro has shown off some demo video from its prototype quadrotor. Details are scarce at this early stage, but the range is meant to cost between $500 to $1,000a and should ship by the end of 2015.
"Earlier this year, GoPro announced plans to release a quadcopter in the first half of 2016. The featured video was captured with a developmental prototype of GoPro's quadcopter and stabilization system. No post-production stabilization was implemented; this is an example of the incredible image quality we are already able to capture at this advanced prototype stage. "

On July 16th, 1945, the United States conducted the world's first test of a nuclear weapon. Less than a month later, two bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, bringing about the end of the Second World War. No nuclear bombs have been used as weapons since the attacks on Japan, but thousands of tests have been conducted – primarily by the US and USSR throughout the Cold War.

Scientists have built a novel sonic tractor beam that can lift and move objects using sound waves. Basically the idea is cool, which is that objects can be moved without actually physically touching it. Will we see a future where tractor beams become real?
"Sound can levitate objects of different sizes and materials through air, water and tissue. This allows us to manipulate cells, liquids, compounds or living things without touching or contaminating them. However, acoustic levitation has required the targets to be enclosed with acoustic elements or had limited manoeuvrability. Here we optimize the phases used to drive an ultrasonic phased array and show that acoustic levitation can be employed to translate, rotate and manipulate particles using even a single-sided emitter."
