Wireless webcams are difficult to set-up and they need power. Vue Personal Video Network($300; Pre-order) system includes two cameras, a base station and the webcams are battery powered. The system uses a 2.4GHz network called a FrameMesh that connects to either a base station or another camera up to 50 feet away. Originally developed for the Army, Avaak is also testing a system that uses thousands of tiny cameras - cubes about an inch across - that you can throw around a scene and watch remotely. In short, these are disposable cameras for home use that can stick almost anywhere and use very little power(Uses small coin battery; Up to one-year of battery life under normal usage ). The base station sends the video to VueZone.com where you can activate different cameras and watch what's going on in your home. Sadly, the kit has no motion sensor so you're stuck checking things out whenever you feel that something might be amiss They film in VGA at 10 frames per second with resolution of 640 x 480. The kit with two cameras costs $299 and additional cameras cost $99.

Nasa wants to build a polar outpost on the Moon starting in 2020. The space agency is partnering CMU Robotics Institute and Astrobotic Technology to prepare a NASA-sponsored study describing a lunar outpost constructed by robots. The research examined two potential solutions: 1) construction of a berm around the landing site, and 2) creation of a hard-surface landing pad using indigenous materials. The first solution, two rovers weighing 330 pounds each would take less than six months to build a berm(8.5 feet tall in a 160-foot semi-circle) around a landing site to block the sandblasting effect. In the second solution, researchers showed how small robots could comb the lunar soil for rocks, gathering them to pave a durable grit-free landing pad.

Today LG Versa is been official announced. The phone features a 3-inch(480 x 240)touch screen, an attachable QWERTY keypad(either attach the QWERTY keypad to their phones or leave the keypad at home), a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash. "I used an old wooden cigar box, a few ceramic bulb mounts, a rheostat and few other odds and ends. I did get a little fancy and paint the ceramic mounts with textured copper paint. The wiring was trivial, but I got a chance to use an Underwriter's Knot. There's a lot more steampunk I could have thrown at it, but I like the simplicity of this. I used two 60 watt bulbs, so it can get quite bright. It's much more pleasant at a lower light level."

Anybody want some top-secret seagoing vessels? The Navy has a pair it doesn't need anymore. One is called Sea Shadow. It was made to escape detection on the open sea. It looks like a floating field house, with an arching roof and a door that is 76 feet wide and 72 feet high. Sea Shadow , 160 feet long and 70 feet wide and comes with 12 bunks, a table, a microwave, a fridge, and a gigantic covered mining barge that the CIA used to keep Sea Shadow protected from satellite surveillance. Sea Shadow berths inside the barge, which keeps it safely hidden from spy satellites. The barge, by the way, is the only fully submersible dry dock ever built, making it very handy -- as it was 35 years ago -- for trying to raise a sunken nuclear-armed Soviet submarine. If It has been trying to give them away since 2006, Sea Shadow (which originally cost nearly $200 million) is going to be scrapped at the end of this year if they don't find a new owner.
