    Anyone Can Scale This Building
    Gear  |  Other
If you're in East London anytime before August 4, 2013, you can climb these walls without fear of falling. It's an optical illusion created by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich called Dalston House. The "house" is on the ground, with a giant mirror looming over it at an angle. The work was commissioned by the Barbican in London.

How do you make a working human heart? Scientists can turn stem cells into beating heart cells, but getting them to organize into a 3D heart requires a scaffold.
At the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Harald Ott and his team are reusing the scaffold that nature provides. They're stripping away all the living cells from dead hearts, before filling in the leftover matrix with healthy new cells.
Madeleine is a Smell Camera That Captures
    Gear  |  Projects

Designer Amy Radcliffe has developed an odor-capturing "camera" based on technology developed for the perfume industry. Her device is called Madeleine. "The Madeleine works in much the same way as a 35mm camera," Radcliffe writes. "Just as the camera records the light information of a visual in order to create a replica The Madeleine records the molecular information of a smell."
Here’s how it works: the source of the scent or odor is placed inside the glass dome that’s connected to the main part of the Madeleine. A pump pulls the scent molecules out and captures them in a resin trap. That trap can then be sent to a lab for analysis and to be re-created, like a perfume component.
Amy calls this concept as “scent-ography” and envisions this as an alternative way of recording memories, saying: “From manipulating our emotional well-being through prescribed nostalgia, to the functional use of conditioned scent memory, our olfactory sense could take on a much more conscious role in the way we consume and record the world.”

The project consists of full-lenght portraits of men wearing the clothes of their girlfriends or wifes, taken in the space shared by the couple.

Teacher wears same outfit for 40 years
    Gear  |  Other
Dale Irby recently retired after 40 years as a physical education teacher at Prestonwood Elementary in Dallas, Texas. Dale Irby wore the same polyester shirt and vest for his yearbook photo for 40 years(slideshow).
It began as an accident — a product of his sparse wardrobe back in the day.
“I was so embarrassed when I got the school pictures back that second year and realized I had worn the very same thing as the first year,” said Dale, 63.
But his wife, Cathy, dared him to do it a third year. Then Dale thought five would be funny. “After five pictures,” he said, “it was like: ‘Why stop?’”
After the first few years, Irby only pulled the 1970s shirt and vest out for picture day and put them back for the next year.

Socks Made with Carbonized Coffee that keep your feet
    Gear  |  Projects
The Atlas sock is a performance dress sock made from cotton, polyester and carbonized coffee. Carbonized coffee? Yes, it helps filter and absorb sweat and odor. The main attraction is its odor control. The Atlas sock literally uses carbonized coffee that is "reclaimed from coffee roasters and shops, and is processed through a pharmaceutical process to remove the coffee oils (so it won’t smell like coffee!) and is then infused into our recycled polyester yarns." If you want a new pair of socks and/or want to donate to their Kickstarter or want to read more about the Atlas sock, here.
Graeme Obree unveils the Beastie bike

Beastie, made from kevlar and fiberglass, might be the fastest bike ever - 83 miles per hour! The extraordinary appearance even make us not believe that it's a bike.
"The front section is rounded, then it widens out and widens out and then comes back in, in a very smooth curve and narrows down to the back end…the most important part in terms of dividing the air and then pulling the air back in again with the least amount of energy is to have a laminar (non-turbulent) flow over the sides of it." Graeme Obree said to Humans Invent.

"After years of investigation, a group of European scientists had discovered that the vulgarly called ‘arseholes’ are actually suffering a genetic mutation that conditions their behaviour. This discovering had opened a door to end with the unfair stigmatization of this group of patients. Understanding how the disease works is the first step to the cure, but there’s a lot of work to do before that moment arrives, including informing the citizenship about its existence. Because arseholes… are just sick people."
