Meet Japan's Batman - Chibatman

Gear  |  News
Meets Chibatman - a Japanese man who dresses as Batman to make Japanese people smile. For the past three years, Chibatman has been spotted flying through the streets of Chiba on his custom three-wheeled Chibatpod.
Like his strikingly similar-looking comic book counterpart Batman, the 41-year-old, who works as a welder during the day, keeps his identity closely-guarded. But like the famous hero, the reason he keeps putting on his cape is just as honourable.

The Wallet Ninja($15) is a 8 in 1 Multi-purpose credit card size pocket tool. It can be a philips or flathead screw driver, bottle opener, ruler, phone stand, letter opener, 6 different sized hex wrenches, a fruit peeler, box opener, eyeglasses (what?), and a can opener. It’s made of steel that has been heat-treated four times, which means it can take a beating from multiple uses in dicey situations. When not in use, it only needs to take up the space of one card in your wallet.

A Star Trek Phaser TV Remote

A Star Trek Phaser TV Remote
Gear  |  Film
The Star Trek Phaser Universal Remote has been recreated using 3D laser scans of the last known screen-used pretend laser firing prop.  It's a learning remote that's able to take control of IR-controlled devices using up to 36 stored commands, although you've probably noticed a distinct lack of buttons. That's because this remote relies solely on motion gestures for its functions. Any motion you can think of—as long as they're all relatively unique—can be used to control volume, change channels, or start a recording. The phaser remote also includes authentic sound effects, vibrating force feedback, and the ability to lock out other users with a private passcode. It's expected to enter service starting sometime in November for around $150.

Energy Addicts by Naomi Kizhner

Energy Addicts by Naomi Kizhner

Energy Addicts by Naomi Kizhner
Gear  |  Concept

Jerusalem-based industrial designer Naomi Kizhner created a series of sci-fi jewelry than harvest kinetic energy from a human’s body and turns it into electricity. Called "Energy Addicts".
"It interested me to imagine what would the world be like once it has experienced a steep decline in energy resources and how we will feed our energy addiction. There are lots of developments of renewable energy resources, but the human body is a natural resource for energy that is constantly renewed, as long as we are alive"
Blinker. Placed on the bridge of the nose and across the eyelids, it harvests energy from eye-blinking.
Blood Bridge. Each spike is inserted into a vein; blood stream spins the wheel and creates movement likely to be turned into electricity.
The jewelry is made from gold and 3D-printed biopolymer. Each piece contains sharp stings that neatly pierce the skin and serve as bio energy harvesting devices. The energy is generated from the body’s subconscious movements, such as blood flow or blinks of an eye. Kizhner created several designs to be worn on different body parts and to draw energy from specific physiological functions.
