The segment above comes from CBS Evening News and it tells the story of how McCarthy used instructions and designs by inventor Ivan Owen to create a prosthetic hand for his son. The 3D printed hand only costs 5 bucks compared to typical prosthesis devices which can reach $30,000.
"Two years ago, Paul McCarthy began searching for an inexpensive yet functional prosthetic hand for his son Leon, who was born without fingers on one of his hands. McCarthy came across a video online with detailed instruction on how to use a 3-D printer to make a prosthetic hand for his son."

    Gear  |  Projects
A Walking City designed by Spanish architect Manuel Domínguez. Manuel Dominguez’s “Very Large Structure,” is a nomadic city that can move on caterpillar tracks to locations where work and resources are abundant.
"Of course this is not the first time that the idea of a nomadic city has been proposed. Ron Herron’s Walking City is one of the more recognizable Archigram designs from the 1960s, and has been influential to architectural theory ever since. However, the design for the “Very Large Structure” expands on the Walking City by including strong proposals for energy generation on board the city."
