Solar Clock

The Solar Clock(GBP 25; about $39) from Suck UK. A great idea, it will save your money to buy the batteries and green. Its internal battery charged by sun and comes with two sets of hands. Designed by Adrian Allen.
"Supplied with two sets of hands (long & short) to give you the options of wall mounted or free standing. With a smart and simple solar panel on its front it's a far cry from the days of those dodgy calculators you had to crouch under a bright light to use. But as well as being functional this little clock has a clean and unfussy design that lets you stand it up whichever way you want."

The Da Vinci Alarm Clock

Array
Home  |  Clock
If you want to have 21 hours of awake time a day? The Da Vinci Alarm Clock let you follow da Vinci's 3.5 / .5 sleep schedule(a half hours awake, thirty minutes asleep) Designer Marc Owens explains his clock as follows: The Da Vinci Alarm Clock works on a very basic system. The Dot Matrix display will always show either Sleep or Awake. When the product is first switched on the display will immediately show the word Awake. This will continue to be displayed for 3 hours at 30 minutes. It just a concept.
The Da Vinci sleep schedule, also known as the "sleep of genius" or polyphasic sleep, is a type of sleep pattern which involves sleeping not more than 5 hours a day. Some experts are more strict, arguing that to follow the Da Vinci sleep schedule, a person must become accustomed to sleeping an average of two hours a day, which is how much Leonardo Da Vinci himself slept; others take the term more loosely, allowing practicants to sleep a few hours a night.
The Da Vinci sleep schedule is better suited to people who can control their daily schedules. Basically, the system requires followers to sleep in several 10-minute bursts, for a total of two hours a day. A variation of the Da Vinci sleep schedule requires people to sleep 20 minutes for every four hours that they are awake. This technique, known as "power napping" or the "Uberman's sleep schedule" is actually in use in many corporations as a way to up production of their employees.

An interesting wall clock prototype inspired by a slide rule - Blonder Slide Rule Wall Clock. Hours and minutes on separate rulers, meet at a central slider with retrograde motion for each cycle. Powered by LEGO Mindstorms(right of pic). The base of the clock was constructed from standard LEGOs, encasing two mindstorm servo motors. At the corners of the base are four switches, used to support the "slider". By pressing the corners of the slider its possible to set the hours and minutes. See the below video showing it in action. The Clock Delay designed by Bas Van Leeuwen for Studio Bloomm. A mechanisme cosisting of three cogwheels: one for hours, one for minutes, and one for seconds. No pointers needed: the time is shown at the point where the wheels nearly meet. The time is shown at the spot where the three wheels come together. "In this way we lose our sense of interest in technology. Clock brings this feeling back." , Bas Van Leeuwen said.

WAKE n' BACON

Array
Home  |  Clock
A fun alarm - WAKE n' BACON by Matty Sallin, Daniel Bartolini, Hsiao-huh Hsu.
WHAT: An alarm clock that wakes you up with the smell and sizzle of cooking bacon.
WHY: No one likes to wake up, especially by an alarm. This clock gently wakes you up with the mouthwatering aroma of bacon, just like waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of Mom cooking breakfast. Unless you're Jewish.
HOW: A frozen strip of bacon is placed in Wake n' Bacon the night before. Because there is a 10 minute cooking time, the clock is set to go off 10 minutes before the desired waking time. Once the alarm goes off, the clock it sends a signal to a small speaker to generate the alarm sound. We hacked the clock so that the signal is re-routed by a microchip that in responds by sending a signal to a relay that throws the switch to power two halogen lamps that slow-cook the bacon in about 10 minutes. if I don't like bacon, could I change to others?

Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos 561 Clock by Marc Newson

Array
Home  |  Clock
Suspended in a bubble block of Baccarat crystal and powered by temperature change, Jaeger LeCoultre's Atmos 561 mechanical clock has been designed by Marc Newson. The Atmos 561 clocks don't need to be wound up. they get all the energy to run from small temperature changes in the encapsulated environment, and can run for years without human intervention. Its power source is a hermetically sealed capsule containing a mixture of gas and liquid ethyl chloride, which expands into an expansion chamber as the temperature rises, compressing a spiral spring; with a fall in temperature the gas condenses and the spring slackens. This motion constantly winds the mainspring. A variation in temperature of only one degree in the range between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius is sufficient for two days' operation. Cool!!
