Gear  |  Projects
If you’ve watched any of the World Cup this year you’ll have noticed the drone of the Vuvuzela. A German engineer has created a Vuvuzela Filter that takes the ambient noise and removes it from an audio track. It look like an in-line hardware box for the removal of noise. If you can read the German, check out this project, here, english, here(google translate).

Pre-Handshake Handshake Device by Dominic Wilcox.
"Many people in the world seem to be at war with each other. We see families split through disagreements, gang warfare on the streets, politicians arguing, whole civilisations and religions constantly battling. This device aims to help those who are at odds with each other make a first move toward reconciliation.
A traditional handshake can sometimes be just too big a step for those entrenched in their dislike of the other. No matter how important it is for two people to reconcile their differences they simply can’t get over their pride and lower themselves to the symbolism of a handshake with the other party. "

A History Of The Sky

Gear  |  Projects
Ken Murphy created a project, called "A History Of The Sky".
History of the Sky enables the viewer to appreciate the rhythms of weather, the lengthening and shortening of days, and other atmospheric events on an immediate aesthetic level: the clouds, fog, wind, and rain form a rich visual texture, and sunrises and sunsets cascade across the screen.
This is a work in progress. Currently, an image of the sky is being captured every 10 seconds from a camera installed on the roof of the Exploratorium, on the edge of San Francisco Bay. The images collected over each 24-hour period are assembled into a 6 minute movie (at 24 frames/second).
Here is a more recent movie, showing 126 days, HD version here.

"In this series I showcase a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape with original cassette. Also included are portraits made from old film and reels. The idea comes from a philosopher's (Ryle) description of how your spirit lives in your body. I imagine we are all, like cassettes, thoughts wrapped up in awkward packaging. : ) "

The Minimum Wage Machine by Blake Fall-Conroy.
"The minimum wage machine allows anybody to work for minimum wage. Turning the crank will yield one penny every 5.04 seconds, for $7.15 an hour (NY state minimum wage). If the participant stops turning the crank, they stop receiving money. The machine's mechanism and electronics are powered by the hand crank, and pennies are stored in a plexiglas box. "

British amateur scientist and inventor, Robert Harrison, captures these amazing images about 22 miles above sea level, using a Canon Sure Shot camera fixed in a polystyrene box and attached to a helium balloon. It is attached to the balloon, with a parachute and tracking device. This balloon-mounted camera project had cost about £500. Cool, only £500...
