NASA's One-Man electric aircraft

Gear  |  Concept
NASA Designs a One-Man electric Puffin. On the ground, the Puffin is designed to stand on its tail, which splits into four legs to help serve as landing gear. Conceptual design focusing on the ability of a redundant electric propulsion system to provide new capabilities for Vertical Takeoff and Landing aircraft.
"Is it possible for a one-person electric plane to take off vertically and fly 300 mph? NASA says yes, and shows us how it's done with Puffin, a single-passenger aircraft that's 10 times quieter than the most hushed helicopters. The design, accomplishing the same goal as a jetpack with a cockpit, could be the closest man has ever come to flying like a bird. Using today's technology, Puffin can cruise for 50 miles, but aerospace engineers at NASA say that range could triple by 2017."

Designer Daizi Zheng has designed an eco friendly phone for Nokia, which runs on Coca-Cola drinks. Yes, its fuel cells generates electricity from carbohydrates(sugar) in the Coke and it can run on any sugary water, not just Coke. Daizi writes:
"The concept is using bio battery to replace the traditional battery to create a pollution free environment. Bio battery is an ecologically friendly energy generates electricity from carbohydrates (currently sugar) and utilizes enzymes as the catalyst. By using bio battery as the power source of the phone, it only needs a pack of sugary drink and it generates water and oxygen while the battery dies out.
Bio battery has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium batteries and it could be fully biodegradable. Meanwhile, it brings a whole new perception to batteries and afternoon tea. "

Monobike

Gear  |  Concept
Akaraolis has created a single wheeled bike concept, call Monobike, pics modeled by NURBS. Click 2 enlarge!
"Hi. I modeled a monobike some weeks ago as part of my Masters project at Bournemouth University. The course finished but i decided to spend some time to improve it and compose it on top of a photo.
Meanwhile i thought it would be nice idea to post it.
The model started in SolidWorks (engineering application) and then i added some details inside rhino. The bike was done with NURBS in 6 days. The real challenge was getting the nurbs into XSI. At the end i just convert it into a mesh obj. Details like bolds and nuts and rendering was done in XSI 7 using mentalray.
My main concern was to model a monobike that would use realistic or almost realistic parts and have something from WWII military bikes. "
