Sailplane Launches Itself With Retractable Jet

A small New Mexico company, Desert Aerospace has modified a two-seat TST-14J sailplane to fit a 45 pound PBS TJ-100 jet engine that weighs merely 45 pounds and produces 240 pounds of thrust. The tiny engine allows the glider to climb at more than 900 feet per minute, at the soaring altitude, the engine folds down inside the fuselage and retractable doors provide an aerodynamic covering. Mr Heeman spent 11 years, and made in the inventor’s garage, this hovercraft is crafted while using various parts from other vehicles like scooters, BBQs, and junked cars. The hoverwing sets off like a normal-hovercraft but when it reaches top speed of 60mph, its wings can be extended and it takes flight. This machine has a 1.8 liter Subaru engine which allows for a maximum of 225 kilometers and its wings are removable. When in flight, this machine can carry only two people or 160 kg, but in hovercraft mode the capacity increases to three people. The maximum altitude of this Flying Hovercraft is around 3 meters.

World's Largest Solar Boat Unveiled

The world's largest solar boat has been unveiled. Called PlanetSolar, which is a 31m long and 15m wide white catamaran, has been designed to reach a top speed of around 15 knots, and can hold up to 50 passengers. Power entirely by up to 500 square metres of photovoltaic solar panels. The boat’s 38,000 photovoltaic cells have been provided by SunPower, their new cells have an efficiency of at least 22%. The boat has been designed for a global circumnavigation planned for 2011. The 60 ton catamaran has been built at the cost of 18 million euro(about $24.4 million) at the Knierim Yacht Club in Kiel in northern Germany.
