A great idea! The Ovation iDea($600) is the first acoustic or electric guitar, featuring a built-in MP3 recorder/player. The digital recorder is part of the on-board Ovation preamp. You can record, playback, create and learn. On the side of the guitar you'll find a control panel with an LCD display, mic input and USB connection, as well as a 4-way controller for navigating the menus and a set of basic EQ sliders covering the bass, mid and treb. The iDea can record from the guitar alone, simultaneously from the guitar and built-in microphone, and from an auxiliary input. Any audio signal fed into the auxiliary input is converted to an MP3 file and stored in the iDea memory. It also includes a USB, you can transfer files from your PC or Mac. Mixes from recording software, rhythm tracks, even songs the player wants to learn can be downloaded and played either through the guitar output or headphones.
