The Nipple Non Grata project by Loreffrey Studios. The Loreffrey Studios took a couple of photographs with their top off and then digitally removing their nipples ...
"By digitally removing a woman's nipples, have we desexualized her? If so, is the mainstream American media responding to societal demand for some kind of "pretend" decency in magazines and ads? Does nipple removal let us flirt with feminine sexuality without corssing the boundaries of "good taste"? What does this say about American culture? Does it reflect a certain type of hycorisy? Does this approach further objectify women as plastic objects or playthings?
The photography duo loreffrey became fascinated with these questions and decided to create the portrait series Nipple Non Grata to challenges viewers to contemplate the practice and question the assumptions that drive this portrayal of women's bodies in the media."

Why does this have to be about society and not about how humans respond to visual sexual stimulus?

Nipples aren't a sexual object in some tribes in Africa. Nipples are not an inherent visual sexual stimulation and that's the point of this whole display. People are brought up to see it as such. This does demonstrate a clear indication of that schism. I thought it was a real breakthrough when the courts here decided it was OK for women to walk around topless in the summer time...I'm still waiting for society to follow through.

@Robert: This is largely due to inherent regional differences. The closer to the equator a people hails from, generally the higher the preference of posterior over breasts. Evolutionary explanations abound.

Yeah, the USA is officially nuts...I should know - I live here hahaha.  Seriously, we objectify and sexualize women, and then impose ridiculous double-standards on them. We men can walk around without shirts and it's no problem but if Janet Jackson accidentally shows her nipple, the FCC has a heart attack.

Don't even get me started on bras.  First, there has been no conclusive evidence that bras prevent sagging.  In fact, a Japanese research paper found that bras increase sagging.  The hypothesis is that, since the breasts are supported by a bra instead of Cooper's ligaments, the ligaments atrophy and the breasts sag even more.  There IS conclusive evidence of a very strong positive correlation between bra use and breast cancer.  The longer and more frequently worn, the higher the risk.  If you wear a bra often enough, you can increase your chances by over 100 times...not 100%, 100 times!  Then we wonder why 1 in 8 women get breast cancer in their lifetime.  I'm sorry but if my mom and sisters have to choose between looking socially acceptable or being another breast cancer statistic, society can suck it!

Finally, what is up with the breastfeeding issue?  Why is it even an issue?  Why can't a mother give her child the best food in the world without being asked to leave or move to a different room?  It's as if we would rather make our kids eat something artificial out of a bottle than what is best for them.  There is something seriously wrong with that.  And lets face it, bottle-feeding is not as bonding of an experience as breastfeeding.

Sorry about the rant, but it had to be said.
