These wooden shoe lasts were used by cobblers in the past and found in an Ontario fishing camp on the roadside. The shoe lasts were transformed into this incredible bench called "Last Place" by Brothers Dressler(twin brothers:Jason and Lars).
"Vestiges of a bygone era, wooden lasts approximating the form of an individual human foot were created by skilled craftsmen known as cobblers, mold makers or cordwainers. Rescued from a Northern Ontario fishing camp where they were dumped with a sign reading “firewood for cottagers”, these lasts captivated us with their raw beauty. With respect for the craftsmanship with which they were created, we’ve experimented with a selection of lasts to create a limited series of objects that pay tribute to the extinct artistry of the cobbler." |
