California inventor Donald Scruggs and the Screw-in Coffin, Scruggs' has been granted a patent on the last gadget you’ll ever need. It is a giant, screw-shaped coffin into which are loaded your expired meat and bones, ready to be twisted into the ground. The idea is that coffin would then be torqued into the ground, either by machine or even by hand. From the patent application: "[the] burial containers...provide low cost internment methods with hermetic sealing, security locking, plaque and memorial markers and built in flower and flag receptacles..."

It also works as foundations for small houses. But more honestly: over last 10 years American standard size of coffin gained 1" in width. Couple more years and it wound be possible to screw it in.
It's nice idea. It would be even nicer to have tree growing out of coffin.

Ilsa may have presented this at Design for Life but Tim Parsons came up with the idea long before...! It was in his lost sketchbooks section of Icon magazine that came out about the same time as filming for DFL...
