Thousands of screws make a 3d portrait, by artist Andrew Myers.
He draws out a face and pre-drills 8,000 to 10,000 holes, by hand. As he drills in the screws, Myers doesn't rely on any computer software to guide him, he figures it out as he goes along. "For me, I consider this a traditional sculpture and all my screws are at different depths," he says.

Isn't the point of creating a 3D picture diminished by painting the screw heads in the end? Wonder why he didn't just paint all the screw heads while they were flat and then back them out to get the relief effect.

That makes no sense @JJ, Andrew's work is 3D whether he painted the screws before/after drilling the screws in the wall.

Joe, painting itself creates a 3D effect. Screw heads in relief can also, but the effect of each seems diminished by combining them. I would have preferred all screws in relief or all paint. He seems to create a lot of work and for little and contradictory effect.
